Türkiye expects the United States to lift CAATSA sanctions and all restrictions on its defence industry as talks continue over the delivery of six F-35 fighter jets produced for Ankara, the Turkish National Defence Ministry said on Thursday.
“Our expectation is the lifting of CAATSA sanctions, which are incompatible with the spirit of alliance, and all direct or indirect restrictions on our defence industry,” ministry spokesperson Zeki Akturk said, referring to the Countering America’s Adversaries Through Sanctions Act.
The ministry said contacts with US officials were continuing and expressed hope for a positive outcome in line with the two countries’ alliance ties and mutual interests.
Türkiye outlines potential Saudi military role
Akturk said any Turkish military contribution to Saudi Arabia under the new Mecca Defence Alliance would be determined in accordance with Türkiye’s Constitution and relevant legislation.
The agreement, signed in August by Türkiye, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, requires parliamentary approval and completion of the procedures for deploying Turkish Armed Forces personnel abroad.
Any contribution would depend on Saudi Arabia’s needs, developments on the ground and operational requirements, he said.
