Türkiye’s defence company Roketsan said on Wednesday that its KARAOK Short-Range Anti-Tank Weapon System successfully hit an aerial target for the first time, marking an expansion of the system’s demonstrated operational capabilities.
“KARAOK, the agile power of the battlefield, successfully hit an aerial target for the first time,” Roketsan said in a post on X.
The company said the test demonstrated KARAOK’s ability to engage threats beyond its primary role against ground targets.
KARAOK expands engagement capabilities
Roketsan CEO Murat İkinci said the successful test had broadened the system’s operational scope.
“Our KARAOK Short-Range Anti-Tank Weapon System has expanded its operational scope by successfully hitting an aerial target for the first time,” İkinci said.
“With the different capabilities we integrate into our systems, we continue to provide effective solutions to changing needs in the field,” he added.
KARAOK is equipped with an infrared imaging seeker designed to allow operations during both day and night.
The system is intended to engage stationary and moving targets and features armour-piercing capability.
The latest test adds an aerial engagement capability to a system originally developed for short-range anti-armour missions, according to Roketsan.
