The Israeli army has carried out a fresh incursion into southern Syria's Quneitra province, detaining a shepherd, Syrian media reported.

The Alikhbariah television channel said Israeli forces advanced west of the town of Al-Rafid in the southern Quneitra countryside and detained a person.

The area has witnessed repeated Israeli incursions, with the channel reporting another advance west of Al-Rafid on Friday.

For months, southern Syria has witnessed recurring Israeli incursions and attacks, including raids, searches, arrests, and the establishment of military checkpoints.

The activities intensified after December 2024, when Israel declared the collapse of the 1974 disengagement agreement and seized control of the Syrian buffer zone.

Incursion coincides with US-mediated talks

The ground advance came as high-level Syrian and Israeli delegations met in Jordan under US mediation to achieve de-escalation following recent Israeli strikes, according to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA).

The Syrian delegation, led by Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani alongside intelligence chiefs, focused on establishing practical mechanisms to halt Israeli attacks, arrests, and incursions, whilst discussing the revival of a security pact.

During the talks, Damascus stressed that Syria is a sovereign state with the full right to rebuild its national army and determine partnerships without restrictive mechanisms.

Syria reiterated that the occupied Golan is Syrian territory, stating that the immediate priority remains the withdrawal of Israeli forces to lines held before December 8, 2024 and the full reactivation of the 1974 Disengagement Agreement.
