Russian strikes killed four people overnight in Ukraine, including two at a steel plant in Kryvyi Rih and two others in the southern city of Zaporizhzhia, local authorities and the steelmaker said on Saturday.
ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih said its facility was struck by a Russian missile, killing two people and damaging production facilities.
“We emphasise our plant is a civilian facility in the mining and metallurgical industry, and we strongly condemn these insidious enemy attacks,” the company said in a statement on Telegram.
The attack was part of a wider wave of Russian missile and drone strikes across Ukraine, with civilian infrastructure reportedly among the sites hit.
Residential areas hit in Odessa and Zaporizhzhia
Two people were also killed in Zaporizhzhia after an overnight strike destroyed a house, according to local authorities.
In the southern port city of Odessa, Russian missile and drone attacks struck residential buildings, destroying entire floors and injuring 35 people, regional Governor Oleg Kiper said.
Russia has intensified its long-range missile and drone attacks as its full-scale war on Ukraine, which began in February 2022, enters another period of heightened escalation.
Ukraine has responded with its own long-range strikes inside Russian territory, particularly targeting oil refineries and logistics facilities.
Zelenskyy urges Trump to tighten pressure on Russia
The escalation has contributed to the highest civilian death toll in Ukraine since the early stages of the war, according to Ukrainian officials.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Friday urged US President Donald Trump to impose “severe” and immediate sanctions on Russia, arguing that tougher measures were needed to restrict Moscow’s ability to produce missiles.
US-led diplomatic efforts to end the war have so far failed to produce a concrete breakthrough, while attacks by both sides continue.
