Federal law enforcement authorities have searched Democratic US Representative Ilhan Omar’s Washington, DC residence as part of an investigation into her immigration records, Fox News has reported.
The search took place at around 0600 AM local time (1000 GMT) on Monday and concerned a criminal fraud inquiry into immigration documents completed during the Somalia-born lawmaker’s childhood, the network said.
“Homeland Security Investigations executed a judicially authorised search warrant secured by the Department of Justice,” a department spokesperson told Fox News, underlining that the raid is part of an ongoing federal investigation.
Homeland Security Investigations, a branch of the Department of Homeland Security, led the operation with involvement from the Justice Department.
Neither Omar nor her congressional office immediately issued a public statement.

Escalating tensions with Trump
The search follows remarks by US border czar Tom Homan, who publicly acknowledged an active criminal probe concerning the Minnesota lawmaker in mid-September.
It also comes amid escalating tensions between Omar and US President Donald Trump over regional law enforcement, including an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) initiative in Minnesota.
Trump has repeatedly linked the measures to fraud accusations involving the state's Somali community while targeting Omar's background and citizenship.
Omar’s family came to the United States in 1995, when she was a teenager, after securing asylum.
