Russia and Ukraine exchanged fresh long-range strikes on Tuesday, with Moscow saying it hit targets including a cargo vessel near the Black Sea port of Odessa and an oil refinery in Kremenchuk, while Russian officials reported a deadly Ukrainian drone attack in the Samara region.
Russia’s defence ministry said its forces struck a cargo ship delivering military equipment to Odessa and targeted the Kremenchuk refinery in central Ukraine. The claims could not be independently verified.
In Russia, Samara regional Governor Vyacheslav Fedorishchev said Ukrainian drones struck civilian areas overnight, killing one person and injuring four. He said private homes and vehicles were among the sites hit.
The mayor of Samara, Ivan Noskov, said air defences had repelled a “massive” drone attack on the city, which lies more than 1,000 kilometres southeast of Moscow.
Deadly strikes reported in Dnipro
Russian attacks also killed at least two people in Dnipro, Ukrainian officials said, as President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was in New York for the United Nations General Assembly.
Dnipropetrovsk regional Governor Oleksandr Ganzha said missiles, drones and artillery struck four districts of the region.
In Dnipro, warehouses and a business were severely damaged, while six people were wounded.
Industrial facilities were also hit in Kryvyi Rih and Pavlohrad, according to Ukrainian authorities.
The latest attacks underscore the widening geographic reach of the Russia-Ukraine war’s long-range campaign, with both sides increasingly targeting industrial, energy, logistics and port infrastructure.
Recent strikes have also affected oil refineries and shipping facilities, adding pressure to already vulnerable supply networks.
Both Moscow and Kiev have repeatedly said their strikes are directed at military or strategic infrastructure, while officials on each side accuse the other of endangering civilians.
