Fans from countries competing at the 2026 FIFA World Cup have been expressing support for Palestine in public squares and inside stadiums throughout the tournament.

Across host cities, supporters have displayed Palestinian flags, called for freedom for Palestine and voiced opposition to Israel's genocide in Gaza.

Many fans have also backed the global campaign to "show Israel a red card" over the war in Gaza.

Palestinian flag displayed during Türkiye-US match

As Türkiye defeated the United States 3-2 in their final Group D match, a Turkish supporter waved a Palestinian flag throughout the game from behind one of the goals.

The fan appeared on the stadium's broadcast screens several times during the match.

A family of three, including a child, waved Palestinian flags during the Round of 32 match between Germany and Paraguay.

A Palestinian supporter, who also holds US citizenship, told Anadolu: "We are Palestinian American citizens. We are celebrating for Palestine throughout the World Cup. They will never stop us. Free Palestine!"

Moroccan fans, whose team drew 1-1 with Brazil in their opening Group C match, displayed Palestinian flags and chanted pro-Palestinian slogans in New York's Times Square before the game.

During the match at New York New Jersey Stadium, which will also host the tournament final, Moroccan supporters carried Palestinian flags in the stands and repeatedly expressed support for Palestine.

Moroccan fans also demonstrated solidarity with Palestine during their Round of 32 match against the Netherlands.

Bosnian fans voice support for Palestine

Fans waved Palestinian flags during the match between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Switzerland in Los Angeles.

Bosnian supporters, many of whom drew parallels between their country's wartime experience and the situation in Gaza, also displayed a banner reading: "Support for Palestine from Sarajevo."

During the Bosnia and Herzegovina-Qatar match, a fan carried Palestinian flags in the stands.

A Qatari supporter wearing a traditional Palestinian keffiyeh and face paint also expressed solidarity with Palestine.

Supporters of France, who defeated Senegal 3-1 in their opening Group I match, waved a Palestinian flag inside the stadium.

Before kickoff at New York New Jersey Stadium, a French fan was seen holding a Palestinian flag in the stands.

Ahead of Brazil's Round of 32 match against Japan, supporters of the five-time world champions marched to the stadium in large numbers while a fan in the group was carrying a Palestinian flag.

Calls for freedom for Palestine and Lebanon

Outside the stadium in Seattle hosting the Egypt-Iran match, a woman dressed as the Statue of Liberty called for freedom for Palestine and Lebanon while displaying the flags of both nations.

Palestinian flags were also visible inside the stadium during the match.

World Cup teams and fans back Palestine

Among the participating nations are Türkiye, Spain, Scotland, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Morocco, Senegal, Algeria, Egypt and Iran, whose supporters have been among the most vocal in displaying solidarity with Palestinians.

Neither Palestine nor Israel qualified for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Palestine failed to secure a place through the Asian qualifiers and, due to security concerns, played many of its home matches at neutral venues.

Israel also failed to qualify after being eliminated during the qualification process.

“Show Israel a red card”

Football clubs and supporters from numerous countries have backed the campaign urging football authorities to "show Israel a red card."

According to Palestinian officials, more than 1,000 athletes, most of them footballers, have been killed and nearly 300 sports facilities damaged or destroyed since the start of Israel's war on Gaza.

Calls for Israel to be suspended from international sporting competitions have also been supported by athletes and supporters in several countries, including Türkiye.
