Explosions have been heard on Iran’s Qeshm Island, according to Iranian media reports.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said that attacks targeting US bases in Kuwait were launched after what it described as an American strike on Qeshm Island in southern Iran.
In a statement, the IRGC said its Aerospace Force carried out missile attacks targeting US military bases in Kuwait in response to what it called a violation of Iranian sovereignty on Qeshm Island.
It warned that any further attack against Iran would be met with a “decisive” response, saying forces involved in actions against Iran would face consequences.
US Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed the strikes on Qeshm Island.
“US forces successfully defeated multiple Iranian ballistic missiles and drones, and conducted self-defence strikes on Qeshm Island in response to attempted attacks by Iran across the Middle East, June 2,” CENTCOM posted on X.
US forces shot down three one-way attack drones launched by Iran toward civilian mariners, it added.
No US personnel were harmed.
Meanwhile, Kuwait's air defence systems responded to "hostile" missile and drone attacks in the early hours of Wednesday, the army said.
Kuwait’s military said explosion sounds heard across the country were the result of interception operations carried out by air defence systems.
No further details were immediately available.
Regional tensions have escalated since late February after the United States and Israel launched airstrikes on Iran, killing more than 3,000 people, including the late Supreme LeaderAli Khamenei and several senior military commanders and government officials.
A Pakistan-brokered ceasefire took effect on April 8, but efforts to reach a broader agreement have so far failed.
