US President Donald Trump has said that Washington would launch additional strikes against Iran over the next two days, saying Tehran "has nothing" to stop attacks.

"We're going to hit them very hard tonight, and we're going to hit them hard tomorrow. And there's not a damn thing they can do about it," Trump said on Monday in a radio interview with political commentator and talk show host Hugh Hewitt.

"They have nothing. They have nothing going other than they have big mouths," he added.

Trump also dismissed the memorandum of understanding reached with Iran, saying it had been intended to test Tehran's willingness to comply.

He said he had questioned why the US entered into a memorandum of understanding to establish a ceasefire rather than pursuing a comprehensive agreement first.

"They didn't honour the test," Trump added.

Nuclear site flagged for bombardment

Trump also raised the possibility of striking an underground Iranian facility known as Pickaxe Mountain, which has come under scrutiny over suspected nuclear-related activity.

"Pickaxe is a possible target for a nice big fat shot right near the front door," Trump said, adding that the US was "watching it closely" but currently saw "no activity" there.

"They're not doing well with their nuclear situation. Every time we hear about it, we blow it up. So they don't like talking about it. But we'll probably give Pickaxe a shot relatively soon," he added.

"We're going to take out Pickaxe Mountain. Tell the Iranians to be ready," Trump said in the interview.

Pickaxe Mountain, located near Iran's heavily damaged Natanz uranium enrichment facility, is a heavily fortified site that hosts two deeply buried tunnel complexes that experts assess as beyond the reach of the most powerful bunker-buster bombs in the US arsenal.

Earlier on Monday, Trump said the United States was reinstating its blockade of Iranian shipping in the Gulf and would ensure the Strait of Hormuz stays open — for a fee — after the two sides exchanged more missile and drone attacks.
