Saudi Royal Court adviser Turki Al-Sheikh has hailed Istanbul as the host city for the 2027 Spanish Super Cup, thanking Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for supporting the event.

Al-Sheikh, who also heads Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority, said on Friday that the tournament would be “only the beginning of a wonderful relationship” between the two countries.

He expressed gratitude to Erdogan, Saudi King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for backing the event, promising a major spectacle in Istanbul.

Football giants heading to Istanbul

Atletico Madrid, Barcelona, Real Madrid and Real Sociedad will compete in the four-team tournament, with matches scheduled for February 2-7 at Istanbul’s Ataturk Olympic Stadium.

Al-Sheikh said a special entertainment program featuring artists and other surprises is also planned for February.

The tournament will be sponsored by Riyadh Season under an agreement between the Spanish Football Federation and Saudi company Sela, in cooperation with the Turkish Football Federation.

Al-Sheikh also credited Bilal Erdogan for helping facilitate the event, saying the tournament would showcase the growing cooperation between Türkiye and Saudi Arabia.

“This is only the beginning of many surprises between two great countries,” he said.
