Egypt has confirmed that a drone attack caused a fire aboard two vessels at Damietta Port on the Mediterranean coast, a day after firefighters brought the blaze under control.
In a statement on Thursday, the Egyptian Cabinet said preliminary findings by the relevant authorities concluded that a drone was responsible for the incident.
Officials said no group has claimed responsibility, while investigations remain ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the attack.
Authorities said they would take all necessary measures to protect Egypt's national security and strategic interests.
Blast hits US-owned LNG facility
The confirmation follows reports that an explosion struck a US-owned and operated, Marshall Islands-flagged floating liquefied natural gas (LNG) storage facility at Damietta Port on Wednesday, according to maritime risk firm Ambrey.
The incident raised concerns about the security of critical energy infrastructure in the eastern Mediterranean.
Trump vows strong response
Following the attack, US President Donald Trump pledged a "very hard" response.
The incident comes amid heightened regional tensions related to the US-Israeli war on Iran and growing concerns over attacks targeting commercial shipping and energy facilities.
