Chinese Vice President Han Zheng will represent President Xi Jinping at the 31st UN Climate Change Conference (COP31) in Türkiye, Beijing has announced.

Han will attend the leaders' summit in the southern Mediterranean city of Antalya, China's foreign ministry said in a statement on Wednesday.

Noting that the Paris Agreement enters its second decade this year, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said the Antalya summit "will mainly discuss how to strengthen implementation, accelerate action and promote cooperation in the new decade."

"China stands ready to work with various parties to firmly uphold multilateralism, fully implement the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Paris Agreement, strengthen practical climate action, and contribute to the success of the meeting," Mao told reporters in Beijing.

The conference will take place Nov. 9-20, with Turkish Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Minister Murat Kurum serving as its president.

Türkiye will hold the COP31 presidency and lead its Action Agenda, while Australia will serve as president of negotiations.
