One person was killed and more than 10 injured after a vehicle drove into a crowd at a parade in downtown Berlin, German media reported, citing police.

It occurred on Saturday at around 10 pm local time (2000GMT) during a parade in the Tiergarten district.

Police and emergency personnel treated the injured at the scene, though no further information was immediately available about their conditions.

Organisers ended the parade in the affected area as police and emergency services responded.

The BILD newspaper cited witnesses as saying a white van drove into the crowd at high speed.

The incident triggered a mass-casualty alert at the emergency dispatch centre. A fire department spokesperson said 44 emergency responders had been deployed to the scene.
