Abbas Araghchi has played a central role in Iran's diplomatic efforts and negotiations with the US over a potential deal.

Talks and message exchanges with the United States are ongoing, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi told state media on Sunday.

We should not give importance to speculation and we can not judge the talks until we get to a clear result, Araghchi added.

Negotiations between Tehran and Washington remain fragile, with senior Iranian officials signalling deep mistrust despite continued contacts.

Earlier on Sunday, Iran's chief negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said Tehran would not accept any agreement unless it fully safeguarded Iranian rights, amid reports that US President Donald Trump had returned a tougher proposal to Iranian negotiators.

The two sides have been seeking a deal that could formally end the US-Israel war on Iran and pave the way for the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, a key route for global energy shipments.

Talks have been marked by sharp rhetoric and periodic tensions since the US and Israel launched strikes on Iran earlier this year, targeting key military and political figures while negotiations over Tehran's nuclear programme were underway.
