Al Jazeera announced on Saturday that its cameraman was killed in an Israeli strike targeting a home in central Gaza in the latest violation of a ceasefire agreement in effect since October 2025.
“Al Jazeera Mubasher cameraman Ahmed Washah was killed in an Israeli air strike targeting a residential home in the Al-Bureij refugee camp in central Gaza,” said the Qatar-based news channel.
With Washah’s death, the number of Al Jazeera staffers and journalists killed in the Gaza Strip since Oct. 2023 has risen to 12.
Ahmad was the brother of Mohammed Washah, who was killed in an Israeli air strike targeting his car on Al-Rashid coastal road, southwest of Gaza City, in April.
The Israeli military has confirmed it carried out the strike that killed the Al Jazeera journalist, according to a military spokesperson speaking to AFP.
The army has accused the cameraman of being a “Hamas terrorist.”
However, the spokesperson did not provide any evidence to support that claim against the journalist.
The International Federation of Journalists has reported that over 262 journalists have been killed by Israel in Gaza since October 2023.
