The Saudi-led coalition has said in a statement that a projectile had fallen near King Fahd International Airport in Dammam.

This comes hours after a Houthi militia strike on Riyadh's international airport killed at least 12 people and left over 300 wounded, according to Saudi civil aviation authority. Authorities suspended operations there following the attack.

Coalition spokesman Turki al-Maliki announced the incident near Dammam airport on X, but offered no further details on casualties or damage.

"A projectile landed near King Fahd International Airport in Dammam," he wrote.

King Fahd International Airport, in Saudi Arabia's Eastern Region, has become an important alternative to Riyadh airport following a spate of attacks on the capital.

The Houthi militia has claimed responsibility for several missile and drone attacks on King Khalid International Airport and other Saudi airports in recent days.

The Iran-aligned militant group has unleashed a wave of strikes against the kingdom on an unprecedented scale, targeting Saudi airports, oil facilities and tankers since a truce in its long-running war with Yemen's internationally recognised government unravelled in July.

Yemen has been engulfed in war since the Houthi militia seized control of the capital Sanaa and several provinces in September 2014, prompting a Saudi-led coalition to intervene in March 2015 in support of Yemen's internationally recognised government.
