South Carolina Republicans have nominated Darline Graham to run in November's general election for her late brother's US Senate seat, as she defeated Representative Ralph Norman in a primary runoff.
US President Donald Trump did not just endorse Graham; sharing a stage with her in South Carolina on Friday, he declared that he too was "on the ballot."
A day before the primary runoff, he appeared to hedge his bets, posting on Truth Social that for "a few" endorsed candidates it was "almost impossible for them to win," though he felt "obligated" to back them.
While the comments came amid concerns over the viability of Graham's campaign, she secured a clear victory by late Tuesday.
Although Norman performed well in his home base of Greenville, Graham outperformed him across much of the state, including a resounding win in the area surrounding Myrtle Beach, where Trump campaigned with her last week.
A political action committee established to support Trump, MAGA INC., spent almost a million dollars to bolster Graham's campaign, according to Federal Election Commission filings.
