Turkish officials marked the 10th anniversary of the defeated July 15, 2016 coup attempt on Tuesday by honouring the martyrs and veterans, praising the nation's resolve, and reaffirming Türkiye's commitment to democracy and national unity.
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan described the failed coup as having opened "a completely new chapter" for Türkiye after the defeat of a group he said had exploited public trust for decades, allowing the country to take further steps to strengthen its democratic institutions.
Presidential Communications Director Burhanettin Duran likewise called July 15 a "historic turning point" for the country's future, while Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmus said the public resistance had become a lasting part of Türkiye's collective memory.
Interior Minister Mustafa Ciftci said the coup plotters had sought to push Türkiye "into darkness", but said the attempt proved that "Türkiye's course cannot be dictated."
Trade Minister Omer Bolat noted that Türkiye remains committed to strengthening its economic independence by boosting production, exports, and investment, marking the 10th anniversary of the failed coup bid.
"The victory achieved that night was not only the prevention of a coup attempt, but also a declaration that the Republic of Türkiye will remain forever free and that this nation will never compromise its independence or future," he said.
Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar said the spirit of resistance displayed during the 2016 failed coup attempt continues to strengthen Türkiye's pursuit of full energy independence.
Officials also emphasised the need to strengthen society against future threats through education and public awareness.
Education Minister Yusuf Tekin said the greatest legacy of July 15 is the responsibility to build a society resilient against similar threats in the future.
"The greatest responsibility July 15 has left us is to build a strong social consciousness that will never allow similar acts of treachery to find room to exist again," he said.
Turkish Defence Ministry also honoured the martyrs and veterans on the Turkish social media platform NSosyal, noting that the spirit of national unity and solidarity "will continue, as it did yesterday, to ensure the Republic of Türkiye endures forever."
