Israeli forces have demolished 40 shops and bulldozed three car washes in the town of al-Eizariya in the occupied East Jerusalem.

The Jerusalem Governorate said in a statement that forces destroyed approximately 40 industrial and commercial establishments in the Al-Mushtal area, alongside several car washes, before withdrawing.

The governorate has warned against the continuation of such attacks, noting that sound and gas bombs were fired at citizens during the process.

Despite a precautionary order freezing demolitions until May, Israeli forces have targeted businesses in a campaign encompassing all commercial establishments in the area.

The head of the Arab al-Jahalin village council, Daoud al-Jalin, described the event as "a true massacre of the shops."

Illegal settlement expansion concerns

These attacks are part of a broader illegal Israeli settlement expansion project, including the E1 plan.

The governorate said Israeli authorities had verbally notified owners to evacuate by Sunday morning, threatening to destroy facilities and their contents.

Human rights organisations have accused authorities of pressuring Palestinians to restrict construction in the occupied East Jerusalem while simultaneously accelerating illegal settlement expansion.

Since the start of the genocide in October 2023, Israeli attacks in the occupied West Bank have intensified, resulting in the deaths of more than 1,155 Palestinians and the destruction of 11,000 vehicles.
