US envoy Jared Kushner has described the Israeli government as "a little irrational" regarding Gaza, attributing its stance to domestic political pressures ahead of upcoming national elections.
Kushner, who is serving as the Trump administration's special envoy for the Gaza peace roadmap, made the remarks during a press briefing in Kiev.
He stated that whilst Washington and Israel agree on "the end state for Gaza," the country’s "crazy elections" have distorted its strategic decision-making.
Kushner emphasised that the United States remains "very determined" and is actively working through political difficulties within Israel.
The remarks follow recent discussions in which Kushner reportedly pressed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to avoid hindering the administration’s peace initiative.
Reports indicated that the US envoy explicitly instructed Netanyahu to "not create obstacles" to the implementation of the peace board's roadmap.
Ceasefire breaches
Israel is scheduled to hold a general election for the 26th Knesset on October 27.
Recent polling released by public broadcaster KAN indicated that Netanyahu's Likud party continues to lose electoral support, projecting it would secure only 20 of 120 parliamentary seats if elections were held today.
Since Israel launched its genocide in Gaza in October 2023, more than 73,000 Palestinians have been killed and over 174,000 wounded, according to Palestinian figures.
Meanwhile, Israel continues to breach the ceasefire agreement in effect across the Gaza Strip since October 10, 2025.
Israeli violations of the truce have killed 1,344 Palestinians and injured 4,464 others, according to the latest data from Gaza’s Health Ministry.
