Trump’s policy to deport Palestinian protester is 'unconstitutional'The Trump administration’s policy of deporting some foreign nationals who participate in pro-Palestinian protests is unconstitutional, lawyers for a detained Columbia University student said. In their first filing since US authorities articulated the legal basis for arresting Mahmoud Khalil, his lawyers urged US District Judge Jesse Furman in Manhattan to immediately release him from immigration detention because his free speech rights were violated. “The government’s unlawful policy of targeting noncitizens for arrest and removal based on protected speech is…viewpoint discrimination in violation of the First Amendment,” Khalil’s lawyers, led by Amy Belsher of the New York Civil Liberties Foundation, wrote in a Thursday night court filing.

The members instead stressed the imperative of a "political horizon for the Palestinian people" and reaffirmed their support for the resumption of unhindered humanitarian aid into Gaza and a permanent ceasefire. The final draft still needs to be approved by ministers later on Friday.

Gaza officials warn of imminent famine as humanitarian crisis deepensThe Gaza government warned of the imminent return of famine to Gaza due to Israel's closure of border crossings to humanitarian and medical aid. The government reported that “around 80% of Palestinians have lost access to food, with charity kitchens halting their operations and the suspension of aid distribution from humanitarian organisations due to the lack of food and basic supplies in the markets.”
