Iran stresses talks amid reports of US nuclear threat
Israel remains on highest military alert before US midterm elections
Beijing says it supports Tehran in safeguarding its sovereignty and security
The United States struck Iran's Qeshm Island on Monday as part of a series of limited military operations carried out covertly against Tehran in recent weeks, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing US officials.
The reported strike comes as President Donald Trump plays down the prospect of renewed war with Iran following Tuesday's midterm elections, expressing optimism about a potential diplomatic agreement despite Washington's continuing military operations.
The Yemeni army said that it carried out 951 operations targeting Houthi militias and their positions in 24 hours as part of Operation Dawn of Yemen.
Army spokesman Majed al-Nuzaili said in a statement on Monday that the operations had “neutralised” around 332 Houthi field commanders and militias.
The army also reported destroying or damaging 56 vehicles, pieces of equipment and weapons across several fronts, including Al-Jawf, Marib and Al-Bayda.
Explosions were heard in southern Iran, including on Qeshm Island and in the coastal city of Bandar Lengeh, Iranian news agencies reported.
Iran’s state news agency IRNA reported five explosions on Qeshm Island early on Tuesday.
Separately, the semi-official Fars news agency said people heard explosions coming from the sea in Bandar Lengeh, Hormozgan province.
The cause of the explosions was not immediately known. Neither agency provided details on casualties or damage.
US president rules out any strikes when questioned, citing diplomatic progress while insisting Tehran must never acquire nuclear weapons.

The US Mission in Saudi Arabia has issued a security warning to American citizens following hostilities involving Houthi militias and Saudi Arabia.
"Iranian-supported Houthis have engaged in hostilities against Saudi Arabia, including attacks on civilian airports and other critical infrastructure resulting in civilian casualties and severe travel disruptions," the mission said in an advisory.
The mission warned that the situation could escalate rapidly beyond the immediate area, raising concerns about potential security threats and disruptions to commercial air travel.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has said that it downed two US drones south of Qeshm Island in the Strait of Hormuz, according to the semi-official Tasnim news agency.
The report said the IRGC Aerospace Force used electronic warfare systems against the two MQM-170 drones.
Saudi Defence Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman has said that he spoke by phone with US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth about bilateral defence cooperation and escalating regional security concerns, including ongoing attacks by Houthi militias against the Kingdom.
Prince Khalid said they reviewed the strategic defence cooperation between the two countries.
"We also discussed regional and global developments, including efforts to de-escalate tensions in the region and the continued Houthi terrorist attacks against the Kingdom," he said on the US social media platform X.
US President Donald Trump has raised doubts about whether he would follow through on a threatened resumption of military strikes against Iran and said a deal with Tehran could happen.
Trump in recent weeks had hinted about renewing attacks on Iran after the US midterm elections on Tuesday. But after a speech at the Washington Reflecting Pool on Monday, he indicated he might be thinking otherwise.
Asked by reporters if he was considering striking Iran after the midterms, Trump replied, "No."
US Vice President JD Vance said he and President Donald Trump were optimistic about securing a deal with Iran after Tehran revealed indirect negotiations with Washington.
"The president and I both feel pretty good about the prospects for potentially coming to a negotiated settlement," Vance told reporters.
"We've certainly made some progress. We'll see if we can make some more."
Yemen's Houthi militia has claimed that it targeted Dammam airport in eastern Saudi Arabia with two drones.
The militia’s spokesperson Yahya Saree also claimed strikes on an early-warning radar and a military transport aircraft in southwestern Saudi Arabia.
