Why Is the Middle East Seeing a Surge In Tourism As the Asia-Pacific Lags Behind?
A new report by the United Nations World Tourism Organisation shows international tourism is on track for a full recovery. The Middle East is leading the charge, after logging 15 percent more arrivals than in 2019. Asia-Pacific countries however have seen the weakest rebound. The UNWTO projects international arrivals will be bouncing back to 80 to 95 percent of pre-pandemic levels this year, but it warns the economic situation in many countries could threaten that recovery. According to UN tourism experts, overcoming worries of high inflation and rising oil prices will be the main factor in boosting international tourism. Russia's attack on Ukraine and other geopolitical tensions also represent downside risks. GUEST Julia Simpson – CEO at World Travel and Tourism Organisation
