US government heads for shutdown as budget talks stall
The publication of major US economic data, including employment and inflation reports of critical importance to policymakers and investors, will be suspended indefinitely should the federal government shut down at the end of this week because of a lack of funding. A shutdown happens when Congress fails to pass some type of funding legislation that is signed into law by the president. A shutdown would disrupt many servicesand millions of federal workers would face delayed paychecks , including many of the roughly 2 million military personnel and more than 2 million civilian workers across the nation. People applying for government services like clinical trials, firearm permits and passports could also see delays.
