COP28 opens with world watching for signs of progress
There's been a significant financing breakthrough on the first day of the COP-28 climate summit in Dubai. Countries have agreed on a landmark deal to help the world’s poorest and most vulnerable countries pay for the devastating impacts of the climate crisis. Governments have collectively pledged more than $ 400 million to establish a so-called 'loss and damage fund' for the victims of climate disasters. But the loss and damage that developing nations have already suffered from climate-related events is already estimated to be greater than $ 400 billion annually – and that staggering figure is only expected to rise.
