Have the Tories beaten inflation?
In a welcome relief for the government, inflation has officially halved from its peak last year. The news coincided with the Chancellor's autumn statement, which contained large tax breaks for the self-employed and businesses. Despite those headline cuts, the tax burden is actually going up - to its highest rate since 1948. And the Bank of England is warning that inflation is still more than double its target of two percent.
