Pedro Domingos is the AI expert urging us to calm down l The InnerView
When Connor Leahy told Imran Garda that AI might doom humanity within a year, his grave message became one of The InnerView’s most watched shows and struck an ominous chord for many viewers. So we decided to get a second opinion from another AI guru. We asked Pedro Domingos, who is an author and prominent computer science and engineering professor to respond to the interview with Leahy and give us his take on the potential upsides and downsides of machine learning and AI. The reality, according to Domingos, is more complicated. The future less imminently disastrous. Domingos is a machine learning expert and author of The Master Algorithm. While Leahy warns of a possible apocalypse driven by rogue AI, Domingos counters with a more optimistic vision. He says that far from being an existential threat, AI is a tool that can enhance human capabilities and solve complex global challenges. Domingos tells Imran Garda that we should embrace the future, not fear it, and emphasises that the true power of AI is in our hands.
