‘Palestine 36’ premieres in Toronto with standing ovation and Oscar bid

‘Palestine 36,’ co-produced by TRT and directed by Palestinian filmmaker Annemarie Jacir, premiered at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival to a 15-minute standing ovation and chants of “Free Palestine.”

The film revisits the 1936 Palestinian resistance against British colonial rule, drawing echoes with the present, and has been chosen as Palestine’s Oscar submission this year.
