The Israeli army detained a child and shot another late on Monday in Hebron in the southern occupied West Bank, local sources told Anadolu on Tuesday.

The incident took place in the al-Arroub refugee camp north of Hebron, where Israeli forces fired live ammunition at residents, injuring a child, the sources said.

The sources said the injured child was taken to a hospital for treatment, where medical teams described the injury as minor.

According to Palestinian news agency Wafa, another child was also detained, although his identity remained unknown

In a related development, several Palestinians suffered from tear gas inhalation after Israeli forces fired gas during a raid on the town of Idhna, west of Hebron.

Local sources said those affected received treatment at the scene.

During the raid, Israeli forces stormed the Abu Jhaisha family hall in the town and detained several young men.

About 750,000 illegal Israeli settlers live in 141 settlements and 224 outposts in the occupied West Bank, including 250,000 in 15 settlements in the occupied East Jerusalem.

Since the genocidal Israeli war on Gaza began in October 2023, attacks by the Israeli army and illegal settlers in the occupied West Bank have killed at least 1,154 Palestinians, injured about 11,750 others, and led to the arrest of nearly 22,000, according to Palestinian data.

These attacks also include vandalism, the demolition of homes and facilities, the displacement of Palestinians, and continued settlement expansion in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, which the UN considers occupied Palestinian territory.

Palestinians warn that such actions pave the way for Israel to formally annex the occupied West Bank, which would effectively end the possibility of establishing a Palestinian state as outlined in UN resolutions.

In 1948, Israel was established on lands seized by Zionist armed groups that carried out massacres and displaced at least 750,000 Palestinians, later occupying the remaining Palestinian territories and refusing to withdraw or allow the establishment of a Palestinian state.
