Two Naval aviators were safely recovered after ejecting from an aircraft during recovery operations aboard the USS Dwight D Eisenhower off the Virginia coast on Monday evening, according to the US Navy.
The mishap occurred at approximately 6.18 pm local time (2218GMT) as the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier was conducting aircraft recovery operations.
The two aviators, assigned to Carrier Air Wing 3, ejected from their aircraft and were promptly recovered by search-and-rescue personnel.
"Both aviators were safely returned to the ship and are being evaluated by medical personnel," the Navy said in a statement.
Four additional shipboard personnel were injured during the incident and were receiving medical treatment. One sailor was being transported to a Norfolk-area hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
