At least eleven people have been killed and 30 wounded in a blast in Dera Ismail Khan in northwestern Pakistan, emergency service Rescue 1122 said.
Dera Ismail Khan, in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) province near Pakistan's border regions with Afghanistan, has repeatedly been hit by terrorists.
The Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) terrorist group has claimed responsibility for Saturday's attack, Reuters reported.
A suicide bomber detonated an explosives-laden vehicle at a roadside police checkpoint, AP reported. However, police are yet to determine the nature of the blast.
Terrorists rammed an explosives-laden vehicle into a security checkpost, AFP reported.
The blast occurred near Aman Mela in the Darazinda area of the district, Rescue 1122 said in a statement.
Rescue teams from the Darazinda station reached the scene and began relief operations, providing medical assistance to the wounded and taking them to hospital, the service said.
Islamabad has repeatedly urged the interim Taliban administration to rein in the terrorists of Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), a conglomerate of several terror groups.
Pakistan alleges that the Taliban government in Afghanistan has allowed TTP terrorists to operate from Afghan soil, while Kabul denies the charges and reaffirms that it does not permit attacks against Pakistan from its territory.
Terror attacks have surged in northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa since the US-led withdrawal and the Taliban’s return, largely led by the TTP.
Earlier this month, at least 31 people, including 16 police personnel, were killed in an explosion and gun attack at a police headquarters in Kohat, in KPK province.
On Thursday, Pakistan carried out air and drone strikes against 10 locations in Afghanistan after detecting and neutralising drones launched from Afghan territory.
Islamabad described the strikes as "deliberate, precise, calibrated and proportionate", saying they were strictly limited to identified military targets that Pakistan said were directly linked to the attempted attacks.
Pakistan called on the Afghan Taliban to immediately cease hostile activity against Pakistan and take "effective, concrete, verifiable and sustained action against terrorist entities" operating from Afghan territory.
