Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev has accused the German government of pursuing “revenge aspirations” and revising the outcomes of World War II.

In an article published on the eve of Russia’s Victory Day on the RT website, Medvedev cited statements and policies by German officials he said demonstrate such intentions.

He claimed Germany never underwent genuine denazification and argued that former Nazi party members became part of the country’s post-war civil service structure.

Medvedev said German authorities now describe Russia as “the main threat to security and peace” and are pursuing a course aimed at inflicting “a strategic defeat” on Moscow.

“The most aggressive Russophobes, whose ancestors fought with bestial ferocity on the Eastern Front in World War II, rapturously urge ‘to show the Russians what it is like to lose a war’,” he said. “In other words, the strategy of pursuing a large-scale revanche has now been officially adopted.”

He also pointed to German political discussions about the possibility of a military confrontation with Russia by 2029.

Medvedev said Berlin is seeking to transform the Bundeswehr into “Europe’s strongest army” and expand its personnel from 181,000 to 460,000.

He concluded by presenting Germany with two options, as he framed them: war and the destruction of its own statehood, or a return to dialogue.

“We can accept both outcomes,” he wrote. “The next move is up to Germany.”
