Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev have discussed bilateral cooperation and regional and global developments on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Bishkek.
Erdogan said the value of cooperation between Türkiye and Azerbaijan, particularly in energy, infrastructure and transport, was more evident amid the current regional climate, Türkiye’s Communications Directorate said on Tuesday.
He said deepening ties in all areas under the principle of “two states, one nation” would benefit both countries.
Erdogan also said Türkiye would continue to contribute to peace efforts between Azerbaijan and Armenia, stressing that a peace agreement would “breathe new life into the region”.
The Turkish president invited Aliyev to attend the COP31 climate summit, which will be held in Antalya, southwestern Türkiye in November.
Following the meeting, Erdogan went to the Irys Ordo Congress Center, where the SCO summit is being held.
He was welcomed by Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov before joining other leaders for a family photo.
Erdogan stood alongside Tajik President Emomali Rahmon and Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and briefly spoke with several leaders during the photo session.
