Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has arrived in New York to attend the 81st session of the high-level week of the United Nations General Assembly.
Erdogan was received at John F. Kennedy International Airport by Türkiye's Ambassador to the UN Ahmet Yildiz, Ambassador to Washington Sedat Onal, Consul General in New York Muhittin Ahmet Yazal, and other senior diplomatic officials.
The Turkish leader is scheduled to deliver his annual address on Tuesday, the opening day of the high-level debate, marking his 16th appearance before the General Assembly podium.
Erdogan travelled from Istanbul’s Ataturk Airport aboard the presidential aircraft, accompanied by first lady Emine Erdogan and a senior delegation including Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, Justice Minister Akin Gurlek, Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Simsek, National Intelligence Organisation (MIT) chief Ibrahim Kalin, and Communications Director Burhanettin Duran.
Gaza focus and high-level meetings
The primary focus of Erdogan's address is expected to centre on Israeli military escalation in Gaza, the urgent need for international recognition of the State of Palestine, and potential global diplomatic measures against Tel Aviv.
He is expected to highlight the worsening humanitarian catastrophe in the enclave, urging member states to adopt a decisive collective stance against continuing Israeli assaults targeting Palestinians and regional neighbours.
Throughout the week, Erdogan is scheduled to conduct bilateral talks with various heads of state and government.
He will also deliver remarks at the UN Secretary-General’s Climate Summit on Wednesday, ahead of Türkiye hosting the UN Climate Change Conference, COP31, in Antalya this November.
