Ibrahim Kalin, the head of Türkiye’s National Intelligence Organization (MIT), met with Themistoklis Demiris, head of Greece’s National Intelligence Service (EYP), in Athens last week, according to information obtained from security sources.
The meeting covered bilateral relations and regional developments, with the two sides evaluating potential steps to address existing issues, TRT Haber reported.
The discussions underscored the critical importance of bilateral relations in areas including the Aegean and Western Mediterranean, NATO security, intelligence cooperation, and efforts to combat terrorism, organised crime, irregular migration, and human trafficking, as per the news report.
The talks also addressed the US war on Iran, the new era in Syria, Libya’s political unity, Israel’s war on Gaza along with the ongoing violations and occupation policies in the West Bank, as well as Israeli strikes against Syria and Lebanon, the report added.
Both sides agreed on the importance of maintaining and building on the recent momentum achieved in the fight against terrorism and organised crime groups, with the aim of elevating this cooperation to a strategic level.
MIT’s Kalin and EYP’s Demiris also agreed to further strengthen the close cooperation between the two intelligence services on bilateral and regional issues.
