Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan held separate phone calls on Tuesday with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, reaffirming Ankara's commitment to peace and stability through negotiations as the region grapples with the fallout of the ongoing Iran conflict.
In his call with Pezeshkian, Erdogan said Türkiye would continue providing "all kinds of support" for negotiations to yield positive results, stressing that Ankara was working alongside brotherly nations to ensure regional peace and stability.
"Türkiye is working together with brotherly countries to ensure peace and stability in the region and will continue providing all kinds of support for negotiations to yield positive results," Erdogan said, according to Türkiye's Communications Directorate.
Eid overshadowed by war
Erdogan acknowledged that the ongoing US-Israel war on Iran had cast a shadow over this week's Eid al Adha celebrations, one of the most significant holidays in the Islamic calendar. He nonetheless voiced confidence that the Iranian people would overcome this difficult period and find safety and stability, while extending warm wishes to Pezeshkian for the holiday.
In a separate call with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Erdogan struck a similarly hopeful tone, saying Türkiye and Pakistan would continue advancing bilateral ties across all areas while jointly striving to bring conflicts in the region to an end.
Erdogan stressed the value of mediation efforts in both calls, expressing hope that ongoing negotiations would deliver positive results for the region. Türkiye has positioned itself as a key diplomatic actor amid the Iran crisis, maintaining open channels with multiple parties while calling for a peaceful resolution.
Erdogan also extended Eid al Adha congratulations to both Pezeshkian and Sharif, as well as to the peoples of Iran and Pakistan.
