A fire at a commercial outlet in northern China's Hebei province on Thursday killed at least eight people and injured three, state media reported.

The blaze broke out early in the morning on the ground floor of the outlet in Haigang district of Qinhuangdao city, Xinhua News Agency reported, citing the district government.

Firefighters, police and emergency management and medical personnel quickly arrived at the site.

The fire was extinguished in less than an hour.

The injured were transported to a hospital, and their condition is said to be stable.

An investigation into the fire is under way.
