Qatar has said that mediators are coordinating closely to facilitate negotiations between the US and Iran, including the exchange of draft proposals, as efforts continue to reach a diplomatic solution to their conflict.
Speaking at a press conference in Doha on Tuesday, foreign ministry spokesperson Majed Al-Ansari said Qatar maintains a “clear position,” calling for “a return to the normal situation” in the Strait of Hormuz.
“There is currently no clear timeline for reaching an agreement,” he said, expressing hope that a deal would be concluded “as soon as possible.”
"What matters to us now is the resumption of negotiations, and to achieve this, a ceasefire and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz must be guaranteed," he said.
The spokesperson said Qatar, Pakistan and Oman are working closely to facilitate negotiations and exchange draft proposals between Washington and Tehran.
Ansari praised the mediation efforts of Pakistan and Oman, saying Muscat has played “a very important and significant role in the past couple of weeks.”
Gaza ceasefire
Ansari also called for pressure on Israel to implement its commitments under the Gaza ceasefire agreement, saying Hamas has fulfilled all obligations under the deal, saying “Hamas has committed to everything it was expected to do under the roadmap.”
“We ask the international community to pressure Israel to implement this agreement so that we can ultimately move toward the reconstruction of Gaza,” he said.
His call came after the Board of Peace and US President Donald Trump announced on Friday that Hamas had agreed to a roadmap for implementing the next phase of the Gaza ceasefire, while Israel has yet to announce an official position.
Qatar, alongside Egypt and Türkiye, has been mediating efforts to secure implementation of the agreement.
Israel has killed more than 73,000 people and injured over 174,000 others in a genocidal war in Gaza since October 2023.
Despite the ceasefire agreement in effect since October 10, 2025, Israel has continued its attacks across the enclave, killing 1,252 Palestinians and injuring 4,120 others, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry.
