US President Donald Trump has announced that an agreement with Iran to end the war between the two nations "has been largely negotiated, subject to finalisation."
Writing on social media, Trump stated that the historic accord involves the United States, Iran, and various other countries.
"An Agreement has been largely negotiated, subject to finalisation between the United States of America, the Islamic Republic of Iran, and the various other countries," Trump wrote.
He noted that the final aspects and details of the deal are currently under discussion and will be announced shortly, adding: "In addition to many other elements of the Agreement, the Strait of Hormuz will be opened."
Regional push for deal
The US President said he discussed the prospective deal with several regional leaders during a collective phone call, which he described as a "very good call."
According to Trump, the diplomatic discussions included top officials and leaders from Türkiye, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Pakistan, Egypt, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, and Bahrain.
Axios, citing an inside source, reported that all regional leaders who participated in the joint call strongly urged Trump to move forward with the agreement.
The source added that the unified message from the regional leaders was that stopping the war is in the absolute best interest of the entire region.
The breakthrough comes as Washington and Tehran have been negotiating proposals and counterproposals through Pakistani mediation.
The Islamabad-led talks have focused heavily on terms for reopening the vital Strait of Hormuz, addressing concerns over Tehran's nuclear programme, and establishing a framework for reciprocal sanctions relief.
