Jordan’s King Abdullah II met Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi in Amman on Monday, with discussions focusing on strengthening bilateral cooperation and addressing regional developments, the state-run Petra news agency reported.
The two leaders discussed bilateral relations and ways to enhance cooperation under existing agreements and memorandums of understanding, according to an official statement carried by the Iraqi News Agency (INA).
They also stressed the importance of maintaining bilateral coordination on issues of mutual concern to serve the interests of both countries.
Al-Zaidi said his visit aimed to strengthen the historic ties between Iraq and Jordan and reaffirm Baghdad’s commitment to expanding cooperation, particularly in economic, trade and investment sectors, as well as developing joint projects.

The premier said Iraq has become a meeting point for all parties and pursues a balanced foreign policy based on mutual interests in its relations with regional and international partners.
He also emphasised the importance of continued coordination and efforts to end regional crises and tensions and promote stability.
King Abdullah, for his part, reaffirmed Jordan’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with Iraq at all levels, particularly in political, economic and development fields, according to the statement.
He also expressed Jordan’s support for Iraq’s pivotal regional role and its efforts to promote security and stability.

Al-Zaidi arrived in the Jordanian capital earlier on Monday, accompanied by a high-level delegation for an official visit.
During the visit, the Iraqi premier also met his Jordanian counterpart, Jafar Hassan, in Amman.
Baghdad and Amman have maintained close cooperation in energy, trade and infrastructure, including discussions on the proposed Basra-Aqaba oil pipeline and electricity interconnection projects.
The two leaders previously met on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York in September, where they discussed bilateral relations and regional developments.
