A senior Iranian official has told Reuters that the final draft of a memorandum of understanding with the US covers issues ranging from Tehran’s nuclear programme to the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and US waivers on oil sanctions.
The official said a final agreement would be discussed within 60 days if both sides approve the draft memorandum.
The draft includes the following points:
Strait of Hormuz
Iran would immediately reopen the Strait of Hormuz to all commercial vessels, while the US would lift its naval blockade on Iranian ports.
Financial measures
The US would agree not to impose any new sanctions on Iran until a final deal is reached.
Washington would waive oil sanctions on Iran for a specified period, allowing Tehran to sell oil and receive revenue.
The US would also agree to release $25 billion of Iran’s frozen assets, including through direct cash transfers, cooperation among regional countries and financial credit lines.
Nuclear issues
Tehran would agree not to produce or acquire nuclear weapons.
Iran would maintain the current nuclear status quo until a final deal is reached, including by not enriching uranium or expanding nuclear facilities.
The US would agree that Tehran dilute its highly enriched uranium stockpile inside Iran, with the mechanism to be discussed within 60 days.
