A loud blast has been heard at King Khalid International Airport in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, with witnesses reporting evacuations amid escalating missile strikes on the kingdom by Houthi militia.
Three witnesses told AFP on Saturday that people were being evacuated from the airport. One said they heard an explosion while waiting to board a flight, while the other two could not confirm what had triggered the evacuation.
The airport in the Saudi capital was attacked again and evacuated on Saturday, two regional officials said. One witness reported hearing an explosion while waiting to board a flight, and at least one person was injured in an unspecified incident at the airport, a relative told AFP.
The relative said the person suffered injuries to their shoulders and arms from shattered glass and was being taken to hospital.
Two other witnesses confirmed people were being evacuated but did not know what triggered it.
The airport urged passengers to contact their airlines and check their flight status before heading to the facility.
"Please contact your airline directly and confirm your flight status before heading to the airport," read a statement posted on the airport's official X account on Saturday.
Etihad Airways and Qatar Airways cancelled multiple flights between their respective hubs and Riyadh, with some cancellations extending into Monday.
The reported blast followed attacks on Riyadh airport earlier this week that killed four people, injured several others, damaged a Saudia aircraft and sent smoke billowing over the facility.
Those strikes prompted several carriers to suspend or cancel services to the Saudi capital, shortly before the city is due to host major energy and investment conferences.
