As the US approaches its 250th anniversary, a Gallup survey released on June 24 found that more than three in four Americans believe the nation’s founders and signatories of the Declaration of Independence would be disappointed with how the country has turned out. 

By contrast, 19 percent said they would be satisfied with its current direction.

Negative views were more concentrated among Democrats and younger adults, while opinions were relatively more consistent across race and income groups.
