Ancient silk trade is alive and well in Turkey's Bursa
Bursa was once the centre of silk production and trade. And now, thanks to the determination of the locals, it is once again showing signs of life.

The silkworms that produce these cocoons, from which silk is made, thrive here thanks to the plentiful mulberry trees and suitable climate.
The Ottoman Empire made the ancient city of Bursa its first capital nearly 700 years ago.
But even before then, Bursa was famous for its silk which has brought prosperity and status for 15 centuries.
The wealthy and famous and even royalty have come to Bursa for its silk. And the government is determined to keep this ancient art alive.
