Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has shortened his upcoming visit to New York to just several hours and will not stay overnight, Israeli media reported.

Channel 13 reported that domestic security officials advised against extending Netanyahu's stay in the United States following high-level evaluations in recent days, several of which the prime minister attended in person.

The security briefing included specific intelligence warnings that prompted the recommendation to curtail the journey, though officials did not disclose the precise nature of the threats.

Under the revised schedule, Netanyahu is expected to depart Israel late on Wednesday, arrive in New York early Thursday morning, address the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, and return to Israel later that same day without remaining overnight.

Demonstrations, ICC warrants

The lightning visit coincides with anticipated large-scale protests across New York against Israel's ongoing genocide in Gaza and military violations in the occupied West Bank.

The ICC issued arrest warrants for Netanyahu and former Defence Minister Yoav Gallant in November 2024 for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.

Netanyahu's compressed itinerary does not include a meeting with US President Donald Trump, despite earlier diplomatic efforts by Israeli officials to coordinate bilateral talks.

US and Israeli outlets reported that the leaders’ schedules do not align, with an American official confirming Netanyahu is not among the foreign dignitaries Trump is scheduled to meet.

Furthermore, a scheduled stop in Texas for talks with businessman Elon Musk was abruptly cancelled, despite an Israeli advance security detachment having already arrived on site.

The cancellations restrict Netanyahu's visit strictly to his UN podium appearance.
