Nine people have been killed and several others injured in a gun attack in Nigeria’s Plateau state.

Unidentified gunmen opened fire in the Barkin Ladi area, local media reported.

Separately, the Nigerian army said it had arrested 11 suspected armed gang members during operations in the Shere, Gwafan and Maza Hills areas of the state.

Armed gangs have carried out periodic attacks in Plateau. Around 10 people were killed in attacks carried out by gang members in the state in July, according to reports.

Nigeria has long struggled with violence by armed gangs in various parts of the country, as well as by Boko Haram terror group and the Daesh-affiliated ISWAP.
