Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has affirmed that Kiev remains "very open" to Türkiye hosting a trilateral leaders' summit on peace negotiations, expressing full backing for the initiative following talks with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York as he departed the Turkish House (Turkevi Centre), Zelenskyy emphasised the "very strong relations" linking Ukraine and Türkiye.
Characterising the bilateral session as productive, Zelenskyy stated that Erdogan confirmed his readiness to host trilateral discussions at the heads-of-state level.
"I said that if [the] president could organise, we will support the idea to be in Türkiye," Zelenskyy said.
"We will be ready to come for such (a) summit."
Maritime security
The Ukrainian leader added that his consultations with Erdogan also addressed maritime security across the Black Sea, potential parameters for a naval truce or ceasefire, and international food security corridors.
"Türkiye is a very strong partner on the Black Sea with Ukraine," Zelenskyy stressed.
Zelenskyy also underlined the operational free trade agreement between the two nations, noting that Kiev and Ankara intend to expand two-way trade from $1 billion to $10 billion.
"We decided that we will increase the trade between our countries from $1 billion to $10 billion. We are on this way. We have very good results," he said.
