US Vice President JD Vance said Washington enters upcoming negotiations with Iran from a position of strength, expressing confidence that talks scheduled for later this week will produce a successful agreement.

Speaking in an interview with CNBC on Monday, Vance said the Trump administration expects a full range of representatives to participate in Friday’s negotiations and stressed that direct communication with Tehran has changed the dynamics of the process.

“We’re actually talking to them,” Vance said, arguing that direct engagement allows both sides to better understand each other’s intentions and positions.

White House signals confidence

Vance said the United States possesses significant leverage ahead of the talks, citing military, economic and diplomatic factors.

He argued that Washington is under no obligation to make concessions unless Iran commits to long-term restrictions related to its nuclear program.

The vice president also reiterated that the administration remains open to improving relations with Tehran if Iranian leaders are willing to pursue a different path in ties with the United States.

Deal text to be released soon

Addressing concerns about Israel’s response to a possible agreement, Vance said some elements within Israel support the deal and suggested public reporting had not fully reflected its contents.

He added that the administration hopes to release the text of the agreement this week and described the proposed framework as a step towards greater regional stability.

According to Vance, a successful agreement could help lay the foundation for “a new Middle East” and improve security across the region for years to come.

The comments come as Washington and Tehran prepare for a new round of negotiations amid growing expectations that a broader diplomatic breakthrough could be within reach.
