Iraqi authorities have seized a drone-launching platform inside Iraqi territory that was used in an attack on an oil pipeline in Saudi Arabia, Security Media Cell chief Saad Maan confirmed.

In an official statement carried by the state-run Iraqi News Agency (INA), Maan said: "An intelligence and security task force made significant efforts and managed to locate and seize the launch platform inside Iraqi territory."

Maan noted that investigative procedures remain under way, bringing together forensic experts, technical documentation, and rigorous forensic examination.

These measures are being conducted "not only to seize the platform, but also through continued intensive field and intelligence efforts to identify those involved," he added.

He emphasised that Baghdad and Riyadh maintain active communication channels across various government levels to exchange vital intelligence and security data.

Diplomatic coordination

Earlier Saturday, Iraqi military spokesman Sabah al-Numan confirmed that security and intelligence agencies are pressing ahead with "pursuit operations to arrest all those involved" in staging cross-border attacks against Saudi targets.

Meanwhile, INA reported that Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi approved an Iranian request to conduct a joint investigation after additional drone launch platforms were discovered near the shared border between the two countries.

The operational moves follow an announcement by Saudi Arabia on Friday stating that multiple drones originating from Iraq struck sections of the strategic East-West pipeline across the Riyadh and Medina regions, causing injuries and infrastructural damage.

The Saudi Foreign Ministry confirmed that Riyadh decided against military retaliation at this stage, acceding to a direct request from the Iraqi prime minister to give Baghdad time to implement security measures preventing Iraqi soil from being exploited to strike the kingdom and regional neighbours.
