Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and his Saudi counterpart Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud discussed regional developments and recent attacks targeting Saudi Arabia in a phone call on Friday, Turkish diplomatic sources said.
The call came after Saudi Arabia’s energy ministry said it had shut down the East-West Pipeline as a precaution after it was hit by multiple attacks in the Riyadh and Medina regions on Thursday.
The ministry said several people were wounded and received medical treatment but did not provide further details on their condition.
The pipeline was shut down “as a precautionary measure” following the attacks, the ministry said.
A key Saudi oil pipeline was struck by projectiles on Thursday, causing fires at pumping stations, CNN reported on Friday, citing two US officials familiar with the matter.
The East-West Pipeline carries crude from Saudi Arabia’s eastern oil-producing region to the Red Sea port of Yanbu, allowing Saudi Arabia to bypass the Strait of Hormuz for some exports.
